Additional Information
“Surgical Site Infections: An Approach to Prevention”
CE Seminar 3826
Healthcare-associated infections are linked to increased morbidity and mortality and can increase
LOS by an average of 9.7 days. The risk of hospital-associated infection is dependent on the patient's
immune status, infection control practices, and the prevalence of the various pathogens in the local
community. Direct and indirect transmission from healthcare workers when communicable diseases
pass from patients to healthcare workers and/or healthcare workers to healthcare workers and
contaminated surfaces can be a mode of transmission as well. Prevention is the key to stopping the
development and spread of HAIs. Utilizing evidence-based practice, we can all help to
decrease/eliminate HAIs, increase patient outcomes/satisfaction, and most importantly ensure that
we are providing high quality, safe patient care! This CE Seminar will offer suggestions for
preventing HAIs. The environment, personal protective attire, hand hygiene and pre-screening of
patients for MRSA/MSSA are just some of the topics to be discussed along with other important
recommendations.
